A good Bali villa for friends is not simply the largest pool in the search results. It is the place where the bedroom plan feels fair, the final cost is understood, everyone can get home safely and the house rules fit the trip.
Use this guide before anyone sends a deposit. Ten focused minutes can prevent the arguments that usually appear only after arrival.
1. Draw the sleeping plan before comparing prices
Write each guest’s name beside an actual bed. “Sleeps six” is not enough: it may mean three double beds, two doubles plus twins, a sofa bed or paid rollaways. Confirm:
- the exact bed in every room and whether twins can be joined;
- which bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom;
- whether all bedrooms have doors, air conditioning and usable storage;
- the included occupancy and the fee for any seventh or eighth guest;
- whether a couple and single friends can share the layout without forcing an awkward room assignment.
If one room is clearly better, solve it before booking. The occupants can pay a slightly larger share, or the group can rotate rooms during a longer stay. Equal division is simple, but it is not always fair.
2. Compare the real group total
Use the same dates, currency and guest count on every platform. Record the final amount at checkout, not the first nightly price shown. Then add costs the group is likely to use:
| Cost | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Accommodation | Taxes, platform fees, cleaning and security deposit |
| Extra guests | Included occupancy, bed type and nightly supplement |
| Arrival | Airport transfer and any late check-in fee |
| Food | Whether breakfast is included, minimum orders and service charges |
| Activities | Driver, massage, chef, yoga or decorations |
| Cancellation | Refund deadline and the amount each friend risks |
Divide the complete stay total by the number of paying guests. A cheaper villa can become more expensive once transport, breakfast and compulsory service conditions are included.
3. Test an ordinary day, not the hero photo
Imagine six people getting ready, splitting into two plans and returning at different times. Is there enough bathroom access? Can one person take a call while others use the living room? Is the pool truly exclusive? Can a normal car reach the entrance, and where will ride-hailing or a driver collect the group?
Bali journey times change with traffic, ceremonies, rain and narrow roads. Ask for a current pickup pin and realistic time ranges for the places the group actually plans to visit. “Near Ubud” is not a transport plan.
Open-air living is part of the appeal, but it also means heat, insects and natural sound. Light sleepers should confirm that bedrooms close properly and are air-conditioned. Ask about current construction nearby rather than relying on an old review.
4. Match the rules to the trip
Friends often plan a birthday dinner, photographer, massage, yoga session or private chef after choosing the villa. Check vendor rules first. Some properties allow outside providers; others require the villa team and may charge a penalty for an unauthorised vendor.
Also settle quiet hours, visitors, smoking, pool safety and events. A private villa is not automatically an event venue. If one activity matters to the trip, get written approval and a complete quote before paying a non-refundable booking.
5. Give one person the confirmation job
Create one shared note containing:
- the booking link and cancellation deadline;
- the room and payment split;
- the address, pickup pin and arrival contact;
- confirmed services with prices and minimum orders;
- house rules and the latest construction or access update.
One organiser should ask the questions, but everyone should be able to read the answers. Keep important decisions inside the booking platform whenever possible.
Villa Bahagia as a worked example
The current Villa Bahagia Airbnb listing describes a three-bedroom Ubud villa for six guests, with four beds: two single beds that can be converted into a queen, plus two queen beds. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom; the listing also shows 3.5 bathrooms overall, air-conditioned bedrooms, Wi-Fi, a kitchen, private infinity pool and daily housekeeping.
For a group, four details deserve explicit confirmation:
- the twin-to-queen setup should match the agreed room plan;
- road access may be narrow, so confirm the vehicle and pickup point;
- nearby construction can change, so ask for an update for your dates;
- external vendors are prohibited and the listing states an IDR 2,000,000 fine, so arrange services through the team unless written approval says otherwise.
The listing’s service summary and FAQ also describe different breakfast prices and minimum group sizes. That is a reason to request one dated written quote, not to guess which paragraph will apply.

FAQ
How many bedrooms should six friends book in Bali?
Usually three real bedrooms, but check every bed type before paying. Six places can mean three doubles, twins, sofa beds or paid extra beds, and those arrangements are not equivalent.
What costs should a group compare besides the nightly rate?
Compare the final price for the same dates and guest count, then add taxes, platform fees, extra guests, breakfast, transfers, late arrival, cancellation and any services the group expects to use.
What should friends agree before booking a private villa?
Agree the room plan, budget, cancellation exposure, transport, house rules, service expectations and one person responsible for written confirmations.
